Moments

Moments

oh, If Life Were Made Of Moments,
even Now And Then A Bad One--!
but If Life Were Only Moments,
then You'd Never Know You Had One.

This passage from Sondheim’s Into the Woods has been circling my brain for the last few weeks. Not sure exactly what brought me to that passage, but just thinking about moments…the moments of the last 6 months are a flurry of events and happenings. Filled with the highest of highs and the absolute lowest of lows, this year has been ridiculously strenuous for me, my family, and honestly….it seems all over the world, people have been dealing with their fair share of stress….so, I know I’m not the only person trying to manage all the bullshit while working to keep it all together and on this swinging pendulum of emotional extremes. But, good grief! It’s the rapidly changing whirl of raw emotional vulnerability that can make a normal day go haywire with unexpected breakdowns filled with sadness. Sadness and loss. A feeling that I don’t think I can really explain…not in words, but in music.

This piece takes a journey through the sorrows and despair to the revelation of joy and triumph. It’s about those moments in life that can, and do, change everything. Thoughts, realities and reactions to the sudden onslaught of decisions, responsibilities, tasks and the experience of going through the loss of a loved one. An angel who blessed this world by being the most caring, selfless, beautiful and dignified person I’ve had the pleasure of knowing. My mom filled my life with so many wonderful moments – ones that I know I am so incredibly fortunate and lucky to have shared with her and my entire family. We all are so incredibly blessed.

“The human spirit needs to accomplish, to achieve, to triumph to be happy.”
